On July 26th, the Saskatoon Farmers Market was having a car show and barbeque. I’ve done a lot of busking at the market over the past couple summers and I thought it would be fun to try playing at a car show.
But I had another reason to go the market car show too. Performing at events also gives me a great excuse to take my camera with me and capture some fun and interesting images. Of course, a car show is a perfect event of this. Cars of the last few decades have been…pretty boring to say the least. But go back to the early to mid 20th century and you see a lot of cool designs. It’s not just nostalgia either. The 1950’s and 1960’s were all about the space race and you see that inspiring the styles of the auto designers and engineers of the time.
If you’ve ever seen any of my work, you’ll know that I’m obsessed with color. One neat story I heard while I was there was in regards to a 1973 Pontiac Trans Am. That year, the car was only available in 3 colors with the green being the rarest. Only 155 were apparently produced and the one I saw at the farmers market was one of those 155. To make the story more impressive, the car still belongs to its original owner!
It’s been awhile since I shot any cars, particularly in the bright noon sun so I definitely forgot a few basics but here are a few pics of the cars anyway.
